这两天，因“质朴形象”意外走红的“北大学神”韦东奕再次冲上热搜。

Holding a big bottle of water and a bag of steamed buns, and with uncombed hair, Wei Dongyi does not seem like a typical university teacher.

Wei, an assistant professor at Peking University's School of Mathematical Sciences, has became an online sensation after netizens found the somewhat shy and unsophisticated man has an extraordinary talent for mathematics.

韦神这次上热搜，起因是一张聊天截图。

某个6人博士团队，在研究一项课题时，被一个方程式困扰了4个月毫无头绪，他们辗转联系到了韦神，对方一晚上就给出了答案，帮助该团队攻克了难题。

最戏剧化的是，当该团队要支付报酬时，韦神表示，太简单了，不要钱。最后该团队为感谢韦东奕，为他充值了公交卡。

对此，北大数学院院长表示：暂不清楚，别人做不出来，韦东奕能做出来是很平常的事。“第一，韦东奕人很聪明。第二，他很专心，就做数学。他自己的生活方式比较淳朴，还是学生时代，我们也尊重他的意愿。”

“韦神”何许人也？

据媒体报道，韦东奕的解题方法被称为“韦方法”，速度奇快，在数学界，他被称为“韦神”。2014年他从北大高分毕业后，曾收到哈佛大学的邀请，但还是毫不犹豫地选择留在北大深造，仅仅三年半的时间就取得了博士学位。

Wei graduated with high scores from Peking University in 2014, and got an appealing offer from Harvard University who promised to exempt him from taking English language tests. Without hesitation however, he chose to stay at Peking University for his master's degree, after which he got his PhD in only three and half years.

除此之外，他取得的成绩让不少网友望尘莫及：第49届、第50届国际数学奥林匹克满分、金牌第一名；8年完成本硕博全部课程；创立“韦东奕不等式”“韦方法”......

Wei twice won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad while he was a high school student. As an undergraduate student, he also scored top places in different math competitions, including the S.-T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest.

In 2019, Wei completed his post-doctoral work and became an assistant professor in the Mathematics Department of Peking University.

这位“90后”青年学者出生在山东的一个高知家庭，父亲是一位大学数学教授，家里存放着很多相关书籍。小时候的韦东奕最大的乐趣就是翻阅父亲的书。

Wei Dongyi was born in 1991 in Shandong to a highly intellectual family. His father was a university mathematics professor who always kept many mathematics books at home. As a child, Wei's favorite hobby was to read his father's books.

In his first year in primary school, he read a book titledLoo-keng Hua's School of Mathematics, andhas been fascinated by mathematics ever since.

韦东奕在初二时即被破格收入山师附中的奥数队，与一群高中生共同训练。

Weijoined the middle school's Olympiad training team at an early age and trained with a group of high school students in his junior year.

Weiparticipated in the 49thInternational Mathematical Olympiad(IMO) and passed the competition with flying colors: of six questions, 100 percent accuracy with full marks.

What made Wei famous was his amazing performance at the IMOwhich has long been considered the most prestigious of the five major subject competitions.

五大学科竞赛分别是数学、物理、化学、生物和信息学。每一类竞赛都要经过层层选拔，名称、时长和竞赛体系各不相同。

More than 500 top competitors from all over the world participated that year, and only three of them achieved a full score. Wei was one of the three. It is said that the most difficult question of the year was the finale of the plane geometry problem, which Wei easily solved using pure algebraic methods.

Aftertwicewinning the IMO, Weienrolled in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University.

大学学期，韦东奕担任某门课的助教，老师笑着向同学们介绍韦东奕，“这是你们这学期的助教，如果你们有不会的习题可以问我，如果我不会可以问助教，如果连助教都不会，那估计就是题目错了。”

在被大家称为“北大疯人院之首”的北大数学系，韦东奕的“神话”依然在延续。

本科期间，在丘成桐大学生数学竞赛中，他以一己之力横扫清华和中科大的学霸们，几乎包揽所有项目金奖。

在2013年他包揽“丘赛”华罗庚金奖、陈省身金奖、林家翘金奖、许宝騄金奖、个人全能金奖以及周炜良银奖后，据说许多国外名校考官当场向韦东奕发出邀请，“只要你来我们学校读书，你连英语都不用学。”

Peking University's Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research said in a statement that apart from his success in math competitions, Wei's research results have been published by many world-renowned mathematics journals.

九派新闻报道称，对于自己在网络上的走红，韦东奕表示对自己几乎没有什么改变，有人送他水壶，但他称用得最习惯的还是那个撕去包装的1.5升矿泉水瓶。

“有一个朋友送了，也有不认识的人从外地邮寄来。我也会担心送礼的问题会不会影响到师德师风。”

谈到数学时，韦东奕还说，“有可能是喜欢数学，所以不觉得努力是一件很累的事。”
